The ideal time to clean your gutters in South Florida is in the spring. The tree droppings from the previous winter and fall have most likely filled your gutters up. The old saying “April showers bring May flowers”, is true in that we do experience more rain fall in the spring and summer months. With that being said, your gutters should be clear so that water flows off your roof and through your gutter downspouts as intended. Obstructed downspouts can cause water to sit in the gutter run(s). Here are the issues caused by obstructed gutters;
1. Sitting water adds extra weight to roof siding, which can lead to roof leaks/sealing.
2. Sitting water attracts mosquitos, termites, birds, and vermin.
3. Full gutters cause water to overflow in unintended areas, thus defeating the main purpose of gutters; to reroute water to a desired location.
4. Sitting water carries an undesired smell.
